Oil touches 100$ - well almost!

With various issues raising their heads all over the world starting from the Musharraf emergency and worries about Pakistani nuclear weapons to Iran and the nuclear weapons program to Middle east violence all these seem to be contributing a lot these days to the Oil bull run. With no end to saber rattling in sight, the Oil is bound to remain high for the next few days anyway.
This is all the more true as the demands on Oil futures seem to keep going up and as usual OPEC is not going to do much about the 100$ dash. With no end to all this in sight, maybe it is time that we all took to the issue of 'alternative fuels' a bit more seriously!

Turkey and Iran are pushing Oil to 100$ !

The middle east which it seems has never known a peaceful period in the recent past has started having an impact on the Oil prices which by the last trade of the day was up to 92$. This is nothing as most of the economists are predicting that the world demand and the middle east tensions are bound to push up the Oil even further.

With Turkey amassing its troops in a move that could very well destabilise the entire Middle East region, and with Iran being shackled under economic sanctions, the tension factor alone would push up the Oil stocks through the roof. If either Turkey was to invade Iraq or Iran was attacked by the United states under some alleged pretext, the Middle East would be thrown into turmoil and we can pretty much kiss away any hopes of any recession in the Oil rates. As such, things have not taken a turn for the worse but the potential to do so is very much there. Will the Oil ever come down to the 80-90$ margin, lets wait and hope that it does so!

Do not pass go, do not collect 200$ says the U.S to Iran!

Today I thought will be just like any other day with a lot of steam from the United states and all of it directed against Iran. But today was different in the sense that action followed words , thereby leading to tougher economic sanctions against Iran. These sanctions are economic in nature and do not construe any act of force by anyone. Instead what the United states has done is to economically blackmail Iran by effectively shutting out 50% of its banks out of the international banking arena.

The banks in question or should I say under the scanner are State-owned banks Bank Melli, Bank Mellat and Bank Saderat which along with the Bank Sepah take care of more than 50% of Iran's banking requirements. Furthermore these sanctions have also put on notice any company that is either currently having financial transactions with Iran or are planning to do so. In short, trade with Iran will turn out to be a costly affair that no country would want. One does wonder what will the Russians, the Chinese and the Indians make of these new economic sanctions since all the three combined have huge business interest in Iran and as such have also invested millions of Dollars into many projects there like the Iran-Pakistan-India oil pipeline to say the least. Are these projects doomed, can Iran overcome this Economic blackmail? Visit again for episode 2 in the Iran contra Iran affair- the title speaks for itself!

Oil surges ahead and stocks get battered!

Today saw the Wall street take a battering on account of the surge in Oil and the weak economic data. i had already posted on the Oil reaching 90$ and more. It was only to be expected especially with the Middle east conditions being what they are. What has made matters even worse is the fact that the OPEC is not increasing the supply at the moment and they are scheduled to have a series meetings on this account. If the OPEC cannot control the sudden surges in Oil prices, then may be some one else could do it for them. The statements from the president of the United states, George bush on Iran and the World war 3 certainly did nothing to ease the markets. All they did was to increase the 'bear' pressure on the markets. All in all, with the Oil surges and the weak economic data coupled with Georgie's statements on war, all of them together made the Wall street take a battering!

Oil aiming for the 100$ mark?

Oil these days seem to be much more costly than they were just a few months back and all of the blame cannot be just laid at the door of the 'War on terrorism'.as things stand the OPEC could have done so much more to stabilise the prices of the oil by increasing demand but they have not yet done that,at least not enough by any standards.Oil,the black gold that is so essential to all of us in one way or the other, costs an arm and a leg these days.
The rising value of oil is causing havoc on all of the world economies including that of the United states.and since most of the world currencies are pegged to the U.S dollar and since moist of their central banks hold their reserve in Dollars, the impact of these oil prices will be worldwide.as it is,we have just had the liquidity crunch and on top of this, the oil surge? we surely do not need news like this.when will the oil go down,or rather the question should be,will it ever go down??since the rising oil prices has such a worldwide impact,if the OPEC cannot control the price surge, then the United nations or rather the security council should take over the OPEC.the OPEC has a responsibility here which they are failing by a large milestone since the oil has already surged to 90$ a barrel.if they cannot control the prices any further then the United nations should step in along with a monetary agency to regulate the flow of oil in a way that does not entail any further price hike in it!

Oil price hikes?

With the oil prices soaring new heights is it any wonder that the crunch is being felt in all the world markets?India is no exception to this and today many of the oil companies were clamoring to the PM's office for a hike in the oil and other fuels that they provide to the common man.they have often taken the brunt of the rising oil prices and the common man for whom such essential fuel is subsidised, hardly feels the punch.but as the oil companies in India have pointed out, this sort of situation cannot go on forever and that sooner or later, the Indian public would have top be exposed to the Oil tango that is felt all over the world.so sooner or later the government of India like all the other governments all over the world will hike the prices up,it is just a matter of time.probably this may happen sooner than later!

77$ for one barrel of Oil!

Oil is shooting up and up and it seems that no end is in sight.with the OPEC refusing to increase output of its wells in the near future everyone seems to be bidding on oil reaching even higher strata.who knows, with the current demand and the rush for oil one should not be all that surprised if it were to reach 85$ per barrel within the next year or so.
With most of the major funds being bullish on oil, this is causing a headache of sorts for most of the countries in the world, namely the U.S and India and so on.since the Oil prices have a huge impact on the prices of essential items in the Indian consumer market, the consumers should not be all that surprised to find that the next kilo of veggies may not be all that palatable to the middle class stomach.oil goes up and so does the prices of most of the things all over the world.unfortunately for us,one of the things to increase soon with the price in oil is the price of food items.maybe that is why the prices of food items in India have not reduced as much as they should have with a lower inflation.maybe the oil is boosting up the prices again.well,it has turned out to be an oily day of sorts!
