Aussie economy to be at 4.4%

Down under has escaped the 'subprime' massacre.the only hedge funds that we re exposed to that disaster were small to start off with so the impact on the Aussie economy was small.anyway accrding the latest IMF report on Australia, they have said that the GDP should be around 4.4% but this may come down next year to 4%.
Be that as it may,the problems for John Howard only seems to be increasing.with the dr.haneef case still pending and there will be a showdown of sorts on that and on top of this the common consensus In Australia is that they want their troops back from Iraq and Howard seems to think that they should stay there.either way in spite of the rosy picture for the Aussie economy, with the political situation worsening day by day, this rosy picture will not last for long.

APEC seeks an end to DOHA standoff!

The APEC countries pledged to end the DOHA standoff.but that situation has developed into a sort of a catch-22 situation and would require more give than take on the part of the developed world.the Doha came to this hiatus mainly because the developed world did not want to compromise their markets in any manner whatsoever.but it is high time that they realised that in order to have a proper trade agreement,it is necessary to give more and thereby be a shining example to the rest of the world.
The BRIC countries, namely Brazil,Russia,India and China have their own emerging markets and therefore they have their own positions which is that the developed world should do more and not cohort the developing world to do so much for so little.now South Africa is slowly but surely veering towards the BRIC group and where South Africa goes the rest of the African nations will soon follow.if the APEC seriously want this standoff to end then it is high time that they came off their high horse and do something about all of this!

The Mexican wave hits "Down under"!

It seems that the mexican wave has indeed hit down under.Cemex,a cement maker has just takenover Rinkler, its australian counterpart.in what seems to be the biggest deal of its kind in mexico,Cemex upped its bid from 11B$ to that of nearly 15B$ including a 1B of Rinklers debt.the first bid was naturally given the heigh-ho by the Rinkler board.and then with Cemex offering a higher second bid,Perpetual, a key institutional investor, said it would accept the revised offer.
now with the shareholders alos backing the deal,it is therefore official that this will make the 15th takeover by Cemex in the building materials sector.that said the very same deal is the biggest that Mexico has seen.also the deal makes Cemex one of the world's top three building materials supplier.but of course the question does remain if Cemex intends only to concentrate on it traditional area like cemetn or if they plan to diversify thier 'areas of intrest'.as such Cemex has gone gobal and its reach is getting far and wide.with the Rinkler's board stepping down for the new directors from Cemex, the cement has truly set in!
