They started announcing that the recent surge in the Reliance holdings in the share market has made Mukesh Ambani the richest man in the world. That bit of news was not exactly a shocker since the whole Ambani family have a fortune of somewhere around 100 million$.

But soon Reliance came out with a press release telling the whole world that the piece of Juicy news that Mukesh Ambani was the richest man in the world is all a case of 'jumping the gun'. Dark news ahead for the U.S economy?

With the Fed mulling over interest rate cuts, the news that the Fed is planning a series of cuts has already sent the Dollar to new lows against some of the major currencies. Now the Fed realise that the spiralling borrowing costs, the falling housing rates along with the credit crisis, things are going to look pretty dark ahead.
Already many of the companies are feeling the heat although at the moment it is being felt only by the outsourcing companies, as they have to pay more to get the same service which they had gotten before for a lesser cost. As cost increases, the borrowing cost will also increase. With housing rates falling and the credit squeeze increasing, soon no one would want to purchase anything at all and recession would have set.

With the current Economic storm far from over, the Dollar plunged to all new lows against a host of major currencies ranging from the Euro to the Yen. The Japanese central bank as well as the group of 7 decided not to intervene in the Dollar's woes for the moment.
Since the sentiment of the market is very much against the Dollar, the Japanese central bank well knows that intervening in the market now will be like throwing the money into a bottomless pit. If either Turkey was to invade Iraq or Iran was attacked by the United states under some alleged pretext, the Middle East would be thrown into turmoil and we can pretty much kiss away any hopes of any recession in the Oil rates. U.S stocks meander along and the Investors are shaky!

The good news on the Housing front as regards the data of new homes sold for September was not all that great. If you were to take the data for just the month of September, the news is good, but if you were to combine the data with that of the august data, it is not good at all. The housing front is all set to push down the economy even further as the Durables goods ordered remained at a bleak low.
It seems that the Bears are here to stay for some time and it may take some courage on the part of the Feds who are meeting next week, to give this beleaguered economy some much needed firm direction.
The forex markets reacted the same way that the stocks did, positively as the data for the homes purchased was released and then negatively on the durables record. Now like the stocks the Dollar also needs direction. This kind of sideways movement on the part of the markets is not really doing much for the investors confidence and as such investors may not be all that forthcoming to invest in the future. That may well be the scenario until the Feds step in with some courageous decisions on their part. After all, if they want the Bull to come back, then they better be ready to show some red!

Do not pass go, do not collect 200$ says the U.S to Iran!

Today I thought will be just like any other day with a lot of steam from the United states and all of it directed against Iran. But today was different in the sense that action followed words , thereby leading to tougher economic sanctions against Iran. These sanctions are economic in nature and do not construe any act of force by anyone. Instead what the United states has done is to economically blackmail Iran by effectively shutting out 50% of its banks out of the international banking arena.

The banks in question or should I say under the scanner are State-owned banks Bank Melli, Bank Mellat and Bank Saderat which along with the Bank Sepah take care of more than 50% of Iran's banking requirements. Furthermore these sanctions have also put on notice any company that is either currently having financial transactions with Iran or are planning to do so. In short, trade with Iran will turn out to be a costly affair that no country would want. One does wonder what will the Russians, the Chinese and the Indians make of these new economic sanctions since all the three combined have huge business interest in Iran and as such have also invested millions of Dollars into many projects there like the Iran-Pakistan-India oil pipeline to say the least. Lead poisoning feeding the U.S consumers fear!

We all have heard by now as to what the lead poisoning can lead to, thanks to the publiocity blitz lead by the commerce dept of the United states. But inspite of the recall of the millions of consumer products, a recent study has found that the consumers in the United states are still attracted to the 'Made in China' goods mainly due to their quite low prices.
But at the same time, the consumers now have a new thing to worry about everytime they purchase a 'Made in China' article. Whether it is okay for humans to handle them or not. The whole controversy is getting blown out opf proportion and India which by way to trade agreement with China is now being told unofficially by the United states to reevaluate the whole agreement as a result of harmful chemicals being used in the manufacture of these products. The United states would like nothing better than to contain China and if economic pressures are used to acheive that, well so much the better.
As for India, the issue of the recall of the Chinese goods and articles is slowly gathering momentum here and it is only a matter of time before the government has to take action on this one. Whether India does follow the U.S lead on this[no pun intended] or not, the damage to the 'Made in China' label has already been done and no amount of damge control by the red dragon can stop the flow of more bad news!
